To get to our first real visit of our stay at Notre Dame we had a nice walk from our accommodation through the market at the bottom of the street, 'Marche Bastille', which is one of the largest and oldest open air markets in the city.
The market is towered over by the 'Colonne de Juillet' which commemorates the events of the July Revolution of 1830.
Crossing the Place de Bastille beneath the column you can see how much the city gas embraces the bicycle. Then it was a long walk down the busy Bd Henri IV towards the Seine.
This was our view looking back towards the Pont du Sully...
before crossing the river on the Pont Marie on to the Île Saint-Louis.
There were opportunities to have a seat once on the island on Place Louis Aragon with more views onto the Seine and Île de la Cité.
We then crossed on to Île de la Cité over the Pont Saint-Louis footbridge onto Rue du Cloitre Notre Dame.
*Marche Bastille is open Thursday, 7am-2.30pm and Sunday, 7am-3pm.
