'Old Walnut Mill'

Due to us commencing renovation work on our barn in October ( 2011 ) we shall not be offering the 'Old Walnut Mill' for rent in 2012.
Pauline and I would like to thank all our guests over the years at the Old Walnut Mill, who have come from far and wide, for choosing us for their Loire Valley Experience and for all the great memories you have given us - we hope you have your own.

 “Le Vieux Moulin de Noix”

Here is a nostalgic look at the house as it was offered to renters.
Delightful 19th Century Loire Valley  gite  to rent ( 2 bedroom house) in the village of Barrou in the department of Indre-et -Loire, France. The village’s location halfway between the cities of Tours and Poitiers makes it an ideal base to explore the Loire Valley, its many chateaux and pretty villages as well as the department of Vienne where you can visit the theme park of Futuroscope. The nearest chateaux  at Le Guerche and Le Grand Pressigny are only minutes away. You can have a true French experience as it is relatively 'tourist free' but still take advantage of all this beautiful area has to offer, everything from picturesque villages, citadel towns ( many with their own chateau), sandy beaches by beautiful lakes, safari parks and troglodytes.

There are many gites and self catering properties to rent for your French holiday, but this Loire Valley village house, all you see, is a complete family home, giving you spacious accommodation and with its history, originally it was a mill for producing walnut oil, has beamed ceilings and tiled floors which help it to retain its French charm. It is private and self-contained in its own courtyard. Accommodation consists of a large lounge, kitchen/diner, two double bedrooms, the master with en-suite. There is a second toilet and shower-room.

What you also get is the local experience of your hosts who, although not on site, are within easy reach and only too pleased to help overcome any small problems that may arise while travelling in a country with cultural and language differences, we make ourselves available to make your Loire Valley Holiday  as carefree as possible.

Your Loire Valley holiday rental accommodation:
The spacious lounge in your Loire Valley accommodation  has two sofas and provides a relaxing room to watch TV (UK & French) or dvd's , listen to music, or to take some light relief from the hot summer sun. In the cooler months there is a wood burning stove for your comfort.

There is a good supply of books and DVDs  available as well as an excellent selection of board games and music CDs for your use.

When you will find time to take advantage of these is entirely up to you as you will not have enough for all you’ll want to do during yourLoire Valley experience.

Your holiday cottage kitchen/diner is well equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, 4 ring hob, oven and microwave to allow you to serve up some of the local fare should you wish to eat in after a busy day touring the delights of the Loire Valley.

The large,(5mtr x 4mtr) light and airy master bedroom has a king-size bed and plenty of hanging and drawer space. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath plus a separate w.c.. A hairdryer is provided.
The room also has its original fireplace plus its own access to the courtyard below.

The second bedroom in the cottage, with its beamed ceiling and tiled floor is also well proportioned with a double bed.

There is also double futon to provide additional/alternative sleeping accommodation . Drawer and hanging space is provided.

The gite has a large enclosed courtyard which is ideal for soaking up the Loire Valley sunshine and  for alfresco dining.

Your car can be parked in the courtyard for unloading and garaged in our large barn if desired -although there is also a safe car-park minutes away from the house.

There are a couple of bicycles at the cottage as well as golf clubs to allow you to take advantage of the nearby sites and activities of Southern Touraine and to add to your 'Loire Valley Experience'.
