Artist in residence at the Old Walnut Mill in the Loire Valley

We have been very lucky to have a number of artists staying at our Loire Valley vacation rentals over the years. One of these,*Sandra we now consider a friend. She loves France and this year,even after having stayed with us on six previous occasions, included us in her very varied  European itinerary.

She painted the courtyard of the Old Walnut Mill,not for the first time. It has been my intention to do a post on these very talented people and showcase their work...and I will.

Old Walnut Mill where Sandra is currently 'in residence'

We are delighted to receive our fifth visit here in Barrou from our American friend and artist Sandra Beck.
Originally from Maine Sandra has now settled in Sedona, Arizona where her passion for painting has flourished.She has studied with many artists both at home and abroad and now mainly paints in watercolour.

Back in 2012 we organized an exhibition of her work in the restaurant here in Barrou which included many local scenes.She sold around 20 of her works and also won commissions to paint a few of our local residents homes in watercolour.

She is at the 'Old Walnut Mill' here in Barrou for six weeks and if you would like your property captured in watercolour then let me know and I will pass on your details.

Our current guest at Le Bourg is Sandra Beck from Arizona who is here on her second painting holiday. Last year she stayed at the 'Old Walnut Mill' with her friend Cathy who had also come to paint here in the Loire Valley. They were kind enough to give us some paintings of the house, the one above is currently hanging on our kitchen/diner.

She is just about to start the last week of her three week holiday with an exposition of her work in the restaurant here in Barrou. She has been busy painting the many views of the streets and houses of the village including 'Le Bourg' itself 

She has made many new friends in the village and some of them suggested that she should display her work and offered to organize the exposition. Unfortunately due to other commitments this has not been possible so it has fallen to Pauline and I to organize it.

Here is a copy of the 'flyer' I made to advertise it which Pauline has distributed in the local villages to stir up some interest.
