Y'Zer after the event...

So your town,Yzeures-sur-Creuse, has its annual 'Foire de Septembre' and as a bar owner what do you do?, you stay closed until 5.30pm on what is arguably one of the busiest days of the year! It may be it was not possible for reasons outwith their control but it never ceases to amaze us how many times we visit places on days like these and find bars and restaurants closed! It was good to see the English run 'Interior Affairs' was open exceptionally.

A day to ourselves...well almost!

Pauline and I headed over to the 'Foire de Septembre' at Yzeures-sur-Creuse to see what was on offer and happy to report that it had everything its publicity advertised, if in a small scale. There was a 'marche gourmand' and music...

exhibitions...

brocante...

and a cycle race.

We met up with friends who had had an eventful morning with three brocante visits under their belts...that's dedication! A pleasant afternoon but duty called...well actually our guests at 'Les Balcons' who had a flat tyre and were looking for assistance...so it was over to Le Grand-Pressigny to see how we could help. 

Yzeures-sur-Creuse's new wine bar

We went along with friends to the opening of the new wine bar Y'z in Yzeures-sur-Creuse last night.

The bar is quite small so they accommodated us in the courtyard of the restaurant where free wine and nibbles were on offer. Maureen,who was with us, spotted the only seating available had become free under some cover which was just as well as the heavens opened up. Our position was made even more favourable when they brought the nibbles in out of the rain and plonked them down in front of us!

Pleasant evening in good company with free wine and nibbles...we wish them every success.

Music and 'Lucky Luke'...

We attended a concert by 'de l'Union Musicale d'Yzeures-sur-Creuse' in Notre-Dame church in the village.We were given a fair mix of music including a Simon & Garfunkel medley. They also gave us a taste of Scotland with 'Highland Cathedral' and a very adventurous rendition of 'Music' by John Miles.

Sunday's brocante...Yzeures-sur-Creuse

 For Sunday's brocante we chose Yzeures-sur-Creuse but waited until the very overdue rain had stopped...it was fairly quiet when we arrived but as many people had the same idea as us it soon picked up.

Found this display a little alarming...

and these a little confusing, "I'd like the red one in the middle please" - good luck with that. Not sure 'furry boots' this stallholder was from.

The wood provided convenient backdrop for toilet facilities for some...plein air

Warm-up

Went along to Yzeures-sur-Creuse on Saturday night with friend Cally to listen to 30 members of the Symphony Orchestra of the region giving us a programme that included (thankfully) some Mozart among others. Made me want to revisit 'Amadeus' but unfortunately its in our rental house!

Church on Sunday...Yzeures-sur-Creuse

This Sunday we visit Notre-Dame church in Yzeures-sur-Creuse which is a late 19th century church built on a religious site dating back to the 5th century.

The church has been rebuilt/repaired over the centuries but here are still traces of the church from the12th century, in the north wall of the nave and apse.  

Inside is rather grand and belies its position as the church of a rather small town..

Where's Joan?

There is a rather elegant side entrance to the church...

...and a grand former rectory to the rear.

The gate was open allowing a better view of the rear of the church... 

...plus a surprising grotto.
