Our first stop on our current road trip was the city of Lyon, a place we have only driven around and once through (not by choice) in the past. Our recent visitors Rab and Julie had stayed there on their rugby travels and recommended it. We arrived late Sunday afternoon and due to not having done a lot of research found out that one of the places we wanted to visit was closed on Mondays which was to be our day of exploring. We decided to head straight out to take advantage of the opening time that was left for a Sunday. We asked the hotel to book us a taxi but unlike Barcelona, (that's another story) getting one quickly was a problem. A lady overheard we were having a problem and phoned an Uber and paid for it on her account then waited until it arrived to see us safely on our way, we thanked her and refunded the cost - how kind!
We headed straight to our destination - the Gallo-Roman ruins of Lyon-Fourvière's two amphitheatres.
We climbed the stairs to take in the views...quite stunning!
We then headed further uphill to check out the city's basilica...more on that tomorrow!
