Come first of May...

A re-post from this time last year

The 1st of May is  'Fete de Muguet' or 'La Fete du Travail' and it is tradition to give a sprig of Lily of the valley to bring luck to the recipient...bonne chance

These are from the garden of  The Old Walnut Mill vacation rental.

Made me think of this...time sadly has passed him by.

May Day...part II, brocante at Moncontour

It is a custom, here in France, to give a sprig of lily of the valley, a symbol of springtime, on May 1.

After the small brocante at La Rond du Chene we headed deeper into the Vienne to the historical village of Moncontour on the border of Vienne and Deux Sevres. Its annual brocante draws people from a wide area to its narrow streets.

There was a mix of professionals and household vendors...

This man obviously had a passion for dolphins...blue ones,

but his collection didn't stop there!

Loved this log hammer.

Was intrigued by this lamp...

...and amused by this fellow.

May Day...part I, La Rond du Chene.

We had a great day out yesterday with friends, starting with an early visit to the brocante at the centre of La Rond du Chene

The plant stall was doing some good business as they were offering a good selection at good prices.

This collection of French favourites were most probably in for another difficult day!

It did not take long to go round the few stalls that were there then it was off deeper into the Vienne to search for more treasure...
