Easter brocante...and get-together

Went over to the brocante at Angles sur l'Anglin yesterday where the usual eclectic mix of items were for sale...we actually bought the wooden lantern in this pic. for when we do up our outside space at 'La Guerche'...very much forward thinking there!

Couldn't resist taking more pics of the village,one of the most beautiful in France.

The sky cleared for the afternoon allowing us to have our planned get-together with the local 'Hirondelles' who are over for their Easter visit. 

Chenonceau and Angles-sur-l'Anglin 'must see' places for these guests...

and we have to agree!

Great house, loved the balcony truly exceptional hosts in Jim & Pauline. Lots of interesting places to visit - must sees are Chenonceau and Angles-sur-l'Anglin. Make sure you visit the local pottery shop in the village and don't miss the local patisserie.

Sunday's brocante...Angles sur l'Anglin

Our son Michael and partner Rose have been over for another visit and we realised they had not had the 'brocante experience'.So we fixed that yesterday by visiting the one at Angles sur l'Anglin where we introduced them to 'stuff'.

 Good and bad...

 mad and sad.

 Might have bought this but there wasn't a pair!

 I'm sure you can guess what this is!

Big bang theory....

The theory was was good and the 'big bang' and company were excellent but our evening dining out at the No15 in Angles-sur-l'Anglin to watch the fireworks proved to be less than perfect..

The location near the river might have seemed like a good place to view the excellent show the village puts on but in reality the castle ruins,which take centre stage in the event, were shielded by trees...

apart that is, from the small chapel which only served to give us a taste of what we were missing. The musical backing was also less obvious but we tried not to let it spoil our evening.

Our 22 euro menu consisted of half a small melon filled with port, spit-roasted lamb, cheese and a cupcake. Unfortunately Pauline's portion of lamb proved to consist of no actual meat. They did quickly exchange it but it did feel that whoever was cutting the meat wasn't familiar with the process! 

The service proved difficult for the hard working staff who must have covered a few miles during the evening.

of  this, a special annual event for the No 15, who do excellent English teas and lunches.

Thankfully when the firework display got into full throttle we were treated to a wonderful display in the sky above treetop level.

Why would you buy someone elses wedding pic?

Nice day but still a bit of a chill in that breeze!

There is a photographer down there taking a picture of us up here.

 Every home should have one.

Our purchases?...a glass to replace one of six I had broken, bit of patience normally gets you there.

Never tire of these views. 

Bump without the grind...

Don't know why but when I look at this pic of the tree in the churchyard/mairie at Angles-sur-l'Anglin I keep hearing 'Nutbush city limits' in my head!

Church on Sunday...St.Martin's, Angles-sur-l'Anglin

When we visited Angles-sur-l'Anglin as part of our 'Patrimoine' outings last Sunday, I was hoping that the normally-locked parish church of Saint Martin would be open - and it proved to be the case! During our many visits to this beautiful village we have often tried the door as we strolled past.So it was a pleasure to finally walk through its side entrance to see what lay in store.

Like most of the parish churches of this department (Vienne) it is built in a Romanesque style and again like many, has survived the ravages of the 'War of religion' the 'Revolution' and in this particular case a lighting strike (17th century). The first mention of a church on the site is in the 11th century but what we see today is mainly 12th century work with a lot of 19th century renovation.. 

The interior of the church is fairly simple in design relying on statues of various saints and the large carved wooden altarpiece to give it some depth of character.

In the centre of the altarpiece is a rather washed out representation of the 'adoration of the Magi' topped by St.Martin and his cloak.

The nave and apse of the church are complimented with two chapels forming the arms of the traditional 'cross' design.

There are some good examples of 19th century stained glass windows

The church has a panelled vaulted ceiling
