How kind was she?

Made it along to Chez Millésime in Chatellerault last night to listen to Angie Palmer. It is a small venue and as such tables had been reserved in advance but unfortunately not by us. We were a group of 10 so it was difficult to accommodate us. It was suggested that we should go and have a drink in another bar and try again a little later as some people don't stay for the whole set. So it was an about turn, even though there was a 'reserved' table of six  still awaiting some smarter people who had pre-booked but as yet, not turned up (Angie had started her gig).

Off we trod to another local hostelry where we were given a warm reception - doesn't, I imagine, get many large parties dropping in. We were just about thinking about heading back round when who should appear but Angie herself to announce that the 'pre-bookers' had failed to turn up and the proprietors had felt bad about turning us away and wanted us back...and why wouldn't they?

The table was right in front of the 'stage' but because of good sound balancing proved to be an excellent position to capture a very good and intimate set by Angie and her baseplayer.

Here is a clip from her performance at last years Barroudeurs festival here in Barrou.

Music and 'Lucky Luke'...

We attended a concert by 'de l'Union Musicale d'Yzeures-sur-Creuse' in Notre-Dame church in the village. We were given a fair mix of music including a Simon & Garfunkel medley. They also gave us a taste of Scotland with 'Highland Cathedral' and a very adventurous rendition of 'Music' by John Miles.

La Chorale 'Passe moi l'sol' de Preuilly-sur-Claise sing 'Lucky Luke' ,or should that be Lookie Luke!

We were introduced to Luke by our French can read more about him here or watch one of his adventures below.

No April showers...

We were happy to see that Le Grand-Pressigny had a fine day this year for their annual brocante after being washed out for the last couple of years.

There was the usual 'treasure'...

plus some interesting 'specialists'...

I can only assume these vendors lived by a bad bend with a high kerb!

Day out in Tours...

Current guests at 'Le Bourg' asked us to join them on the bus trip to up to Tours from Le Grand Pressigny.

We were blessed by a lovely spring day.

Place Plumereau was quiet but it is still a little early in the Tourist season.

The Loire riverside is yet to take on its summer makeover but we enjoyed the colours of spring.

Subday's brocante...Azay -e-Ferron

Needed to do something 'normal' on    Sunday neighbours had suggested to Pauline that a visit to a brocante
might be the thing.Unfortunately she had thought that they had said it was at Ferriere Larcon when in fact it was at Azay le Ferron,so we had the distraction of a countryside drive as well.

It was a lovely spring day and although we only bought somme replacement glasses it was a pleasant walk in the sunshine.

There was a variety of modes of transport on sale...

Church on Sunday...Cheverny

If,as I have recommended, you visit Chateau de Cheverny to catch the tulips in full bloom then a tour of the chateau is a must, The interior is a delight and you can now enter the chateau's private chapel that used to be closed to visitors. You could also pop into the village's 12th century church of Saint Etienne

A great time to visit Chateau de Cheverny...

If you haven't already visited Chateau de Cheverny then now is a great time to do so.The displays of tulips in the grounds are breathtaking. Come to think of it even if you have visited before...go again.

Something for the weekend...line-dancing anyone?

This Sunday is the annual brocant at Neuilly-le-Brignon where among other things you will be 'treated' to a demonstration of line-dancing, country-style. Which in a region that embraces other cultures...Dickensian carol singers in Le Grand Pressigny,Scottish weekend in Loches,St.Patrick's celebration in Le Petit Pressigny...shouldn't surprise us!
