European solidarity...
Last night, along with many local Brits. (and a couple of Americans), 'celebrated' lack of 'Brexit' with fish & chips and music at Chez L in Le Grand-Pressigny as Europeans along with our French friends and neighbours. Oh and continued the special birthday celebrations of David...a good night!

Congratulations to Maison Dallais - La Promenade restaurant in the spotlight at the the 'Gault & Millau Tour' the Transmission Trophy has been awarded to Fabrice and Jacky Dallais! One of the 'experiences' of Touraine.

Loved this street entertainer (or lack of ) we spotted when in Nice, gave him an invisible euro for his efforts! We knew he wasn't really there as he was up in Tours for a haircut!

A bit of window dressing at La Guerche.
We are in the throws of trying to move into the house in La Guerche where Pauline has brought her skills to the fore and dressed the usable rooms by making curtains using her new sewing machine -which is obviously going to prove to be a good investment.

Something for the weekend...bus to Tours then a spot of wine tasting.
On Saturday fifty winemakers from Bourgueil will be decanting themselves to Tours for the day and setting out their stalls along Boulevard Heurteloup.
After buying your tasting glass (€ 2) you are invited to taste their 2018 vintage from 10.00am until 7.00pm More information vinbourgueil.com.
Leave the car and take the very inexpensive bus (under 3 euros) trip into the heart of the city.

The beautiful apartment where we were lucky enough to stay when visiting the 'Fete de Citron' in Menton had a lovely balcony with a great collection of pot plants but nothing as grand as the apartment opposite...they have trees!

When visiting a new place as a tourist I love the signs of the local people living out their lives. These are in Menton.
Hounded out of the house...
We were working at 'Le Bourg' in Barrou yesterday when there was the sound of horses on the street...turns out the hunt had lost the pack of dogs (not for the first time). I heard barking from behind the house and on investigating arrived just in time to see them marauding through the garden of the house and the immediate neighbours gardens as well. Watching the sea of hounds all looking for a way out I heard Pauline screaming from the front of the house...three strays had come in off the road and into the house,she made a sharp exit into the safety of the 'little house'. I turned round to see the hounds and their wet noses against my recently cleaned French doors trying to join the pack! Managed to chase them around the back to join their mates - Grand Rue was blocked by hunter's vans/cars all looking for their hounds - not your typical day in the village!

I took so many photos on our sojourn to the south of France that I am going to do a week of posting some more of them, I know they are not Loire Valley related but hope you will forgive this further deviation.
The beautiful inside however, remains unaffected.
As it is Sunday I am going to start with a church, well a basilica actually, the 15th century 'Basilique Saint Michel Archange' which sits high up in the old town at Menton. The image above is actually canvases streched over the front of the basilica which is currently undergoing a renovation programme.
