Setting the scene...

One of our favourite aspects of the annual performances that the chateau here in La Guerche puts on is the use of the building as the backdrop to the story. This year was no different with a song from above.

This is from a previous year.

Fun & frolics at the chateau...

Great fun last night at the chateau here in La Guerche with 'Théâtre du Perron' putting on a performance of 'Ubu roi' by Alfred Jarry.

Imagine, if you can, Shakespeare's scheming wife from 'Macbeth' meets the ghost and revolt from Hamlet, the bear from 'The Winter's Tale', throw in an enemy eating machine and there you have it!

Awaiting their fate in the man eating machine...and they all disappeared inside with a clever piece of directing!

The evening was enhance by the talent of the musicale ensemble some of  whom, with some quick costume changes. also got involved with the acting.
Bravo  'Théâtre du Perron'...take a bow!
You can catch the last performance tonight.

Short walk around the village...

We took advantage of a bright, if chilly, morning to do what is now our go-to route around the village.

Setting the scenes...at Chateau de La Guerche

We joined friends to attend this year's play, Shakespeare's  'Henry IV', across the road at the chateau on Friday night - we were again treated to some excellent acting skills in a great setting. For us the stand-out performances were the characters of Falstaff and Hotspur but everyone contributed to a great performance.

Shakespeare - Henry IV (part 1) at Château de la Guerche

This year, the Théâtre du Perron invites you to discover Shakespeare at Château de la Guerche with 'Henry IV', a play that traces the tumultuous youth of Prince Hal (Henry), as the revolt against his father King Henry rumbles. From the tavern at Eastcheap to the battlefield at Shrewsbury, scenes of comedy, intrigue, poetry, await you!

If you haven't been to one of the plays put on by 'Théâtre du Perron' you should perhaps give it a try as the back drop of the chateau is almost worth it alone. In the past we have to admit that the 'French' has gone completely over our heads but the ambiance and the quality of the performances makes for a lovely evening out.

Farcical frolics at the Chateau...

Had fun last night over at the chateau here in La Guerche where we were entertained by an excellent cast (including family members) performing  'Les Plaideurs' a comedy (apparently his only one)  by Jean Racine. The story revolves around a mad judge who just needs to be in court and gets up to all sorts of mischief trying to do so! Plus a romance and promises of marriage. Not sure where we Scots came into it as much of it went over our heads!

We even had him up in the attic

He did get his day in court in the trial of a (cute) dog who had stolen a capon!

The chateau is a fabulous backdrop for these events.

A night at the chateau...

Enjoyed our evening at Chateau de La Guerche on Monday where they were performing Molière's 'Amphitryon' for the third of four nights. All a bit over our heads despite being kindly given an English synopsis and having Cally offering her assistance in explaining the 'plot'. It was for us, all about the spectacle and the setting and you can't help but be carried along by the performances of the actors.

Loved how 'night' was portrayed with her chariot.

The cast take their well deserved bows.
