An unplanned visit...

During our walk on Monday we passed by the front of the chateau in Preuilly-sur-Claise. It had been years since I had visited the 'Poterne Museum', housed in the former southern gatehouse, so I poked my head in only to be met with two ladies having a chat. They happened to be Madame le Maire and Madame Deberne who is president of the local archeological society, I was informed that the museum was not quite opened yet but after I said that was a shame, they invited the group to have a look - how kind!

The museum provides a rich local history and the evolution of this small rural town over the centuries.It holds a beautiful collection of stone capitals, memorabilia of local history, folk arts and traditions, and there is a room dedicated to lace and Touraine headdresses presented in scenes depicting the course of daily life.

It also includes a bread oven and small prison.

Sally got into the spirit of the place.

There is an impressive terrace to the side of the gate house with views over the town.

A night of music and fireworks...

 

Last night we had music over at 'Le Lavoir'  in Preuilly-sur-Claise with the ever popular Angie Palmer (and Paul) then headed over to Lesigny to catch the firework display to round off a local fete.

Brocante et la course de caisses à savons à Preuilly-sur-Claise.

We went over to the annual 'Foire de la Saint-Georges' brocante at Preuilly-sur-Claise on Saturday. Where it normally stretches out through the streets of the town this it was restricted to the south of the river,around the Marie, Place des Halles and Pl. du Champ de Foire down by the 'Le Lavoir'.

We are no longer searching for treasures as we actually need to get rid of 'stuff' but it is still fun looking at what's of offer...we never get boared.

The restrictions on brocante stalls was because much of the main streets were given over to form a course,made up of bales of hay, for the staging of a soapbox race. 

There was an interesting array of vehicles taking part.

Love that the course included a ramp and water jump.

The finish line was just before the river crossing, a real fun run!

Monday's walk at Preuilly-sur-Claise

Monday's walk,which was lead by Simon, had us starting by the football stadium on Route de Boussay in Preuilly-sur-Claise, or more specifically from the 'delights' of Porte-Chanteau. It took us under the new 'greenway trail' into the countryside and back again, finishing for a short distance, actually on it back into the town - a good walk.
