The 'L'Art & Lard' festival in Le Petit Pressigny has become one of the local events we attend every year as it is always an interesting experience. Its purpose? - to showcase local artist's works - and there are a lot of talented people around. We were blessed with a beautiful October day,so good, that we saw someone in their pool...honestly.
We like it as it is always an opportunity to meet friends and also have a nosey at the local housing stock...it is a lovely village.
A photo walk around the 'art' on display at yesterday' 'Art & Lard' festival in Le Petit Pressigny, in no particular order even though there were two helpful maps showing the numbered exhibitions - we are people who go around Ikea against the arrows.
One of the good things about the day is that art is exhibited in a variety of diverse locations around the village in barns caves and houses. The sign above was on display in one exhibition but we weren't sure if it was part of the artwork or belonged to the owners...but it was an odd sign anyway (had the bar been called 'The Edward II',could have made the connection)
Some paintings in a wood store
This could have been entitled 'absent art' as the artist had failed to show!
ET (?)...among others
These weren't part of the exhibition but have included them under the title 'art by the bucketload'
Art in the 'lavoir'
Cute...
Really liked these...and the fact that the artist, Yves Galzin passes on his skills to children.
Art was on display all over the place, everywhere you turned
The 'automaton man' from Betz le Chateau brought along his wind powered exhibition.
and the costume lady from Barrou brought along some examples.
Always interesting...but still say they should have it during the tourist season as they would probably have more visitors and better weather!
As part of "Chaumussay remembers" this year the village has chosen to remember the war years WWI (1914-1918) & WWII (1939-1945).through exhibitions, at various venues,of material put together by local residents.
There is a lot of war history connected to this part of Southern Touraine, For example the control of the demarcation line between occupied and 'free France' went through the village, from June 30 to
December 15, 1940, before being moved to Descartes. Through the exhibitions will be able to see how local life was affected. Starts at 10.00am.
In the evening (8.30) you will be treated to a free concert of 'songs from between the wars'
When friends Jane & Peter suggested we should take in the “spectacular” ‘Son et Lumiére’ at Ciran we were a little sceptical as their description bellied any thoughts of what type of show this small (400+) village could possibly put on. We often pass through the village on our way to Loches and our shortcut to avoid driving through Ligueil took us past its little ‘etang’ which showed no real hint of a possible ‘spectacular’.
After an initial scare, a really heavy downpour, which we managed to avoid by arriving at the parking (field) just as the heavens opened and sitting tight until it passed, we set up stall courtesy of Mike & Liz’s folding chairs - what was about to unfold was still not clear.
Across the small lake you could see the minimum of props - a small structure which represented the attic, a colourful gateway and a large panel/screen...
.‘La Malle aux Souvenirs’ (The trunk of Souvenirs) was about
to reveal itself.
As darkness fell the scene was set by colourful back lights and music with our host welcoming us to a journey across the world via the trunk of memories of that would be revealed by inquisitive children and their imagination.
The lighting, music and water would feature heavily.
We were taken to America via the wild west, to India and the Ganges
...to Egypt...
...to Paris in the company of Tolouse Lautrec
...to a Venician ball
...to China
...to the Rio Carnival
they even took us on a cinematic trip which included a 'Singing in the rain' sequence on their water stage.
After nearly two hours of performance the cast of hundreds (mainly local amateurs) took their bow before we were treated to a grand finale of fireworks.
We came away thinking that this should be on every visitor to the region's agenda, great!
Here is a small sample of the night...remember they are mainly amateurs...
