More art in Beaulieu-lès-Loches...

 

We were in Loches yesterday and before lunch we did the walk across 'Les Prairies du Roy' to Beaulieu-lès-Loches. On arrival we were met with wit a selection of art displayed on the walls and as we ventured further into town we discovered they had an exhibition 'Autistic Artists' showcasing the work of around fifteen autistic artists.

The Hotel de Ville hosted some of the works.

While others were randomly displayed about the town.

We passed a local artist's studio as we were heading out of town when I noticed this large canvas, he said he was exhibiting at another exhibition at Savonnières as per the poster on his door.

There was one udder painting on display as we headed back along the path to Loches.

The draw of Ada...

Ada drew this peafowl family picture for my birthday yesterday!

Bringing some light to a dark Edinburgh...temporarily.

On the Tuesday of our last week in Edinburgh Mara joined us for lunch at the award winning *Scottish Cafe & Restaurant under the National Galleries. After lunch we visited an exhibition of  38 Turner watercolours within the Galleries.The collection was left to the nation by the art collector Henry Vaughan in 1900. At his bequest they can only be exhibited during the month of January when natural light levels are at their lowest to preserve their quality and viewing must be free to all.

 

We also had a look around the other temporary exhibition of the work of Scottish artist Sir William Gillies who we knew little of before our visit.Below is a short biography courtesy of the National Galleries Scotland.

'Bornin Haddington near Edinburgh, Gillies studied at Edinburgh College of Art. After graduating, he taught there for more than forty years until his retirement as Principal in 1966, having influenced several generations of artists. A college grant enabled Gillies to go to Paris in 1923 to study, and for a brief period he worked in a cubist style. But, by nature, he was more inclined to the traditional, and in his later work only his still lifes show a general debt to Cubism. Gillies concentrated on landscapes and still lifes, and was particularly fond of depicting the Lothian, Fife and Border regions.'

I have to admit to being a bit of philistine when it comes to art - the 'Red House' above 'screams' bad to me but then what do I know?

Sunday's morning brocante and a bit of afternoon art.

 

On Sunday morning we headed to one of our favourite villages, Chedigny, for their brocante. We did buy a couple of things but were there mainly for the walk which is always a pleasure.

There were seven!

In the afternoon we took up an invitation to view the work of local artist Ed Buziak at his studio in the small hamlet of  Roux just outside Bousay. On show were his many abstract artworks which he has created over the last seven years.Ed studied Interior Design at Manchester College of Art in the 1960s, worked in the TV and film industry for a decade, then turned to editorial photography before settling in France and concentrating on his drawing and painting portfolio.

Loved seeing the tools of his trade which could be an exhibit in itself!

A collection of creators...

 

We popped over to the open house of G'art in Le Grand-Pressigny yesterday afternoon where Mylène and Benjamin showcased their own creations alongside other invited talented people.

So prefer Benjamin's trophy heads to the real ones...they would go well,I think, among the exhibits Chateau du Rivau

Face to face...

 

As we had to visit Loches yesterday we took advantage of our location to head over to Chedigny to have a look at the work of  Andre Sobas, an artist from Montresor who was exhibiting his work within 'Le Pressoir'. Took the opportunity to get these copies of some of his work, the detail.these are done by coloured ink in a fountain pen, is amazing. Check out more of his unique style here.

The village was looking great as it prepares for its Rose Festival at the end of the month.

Touraine an area blessed with talent...

Here in Southern Touraine we are lucky enough to have many fine artists and musicians who bring their own unique talents to share with us here in our lovely part of France. Someone worth checking out is Andre Sobas a Polish artist living in Montresor who makes these great black and white drawings and illustrations

 

Picture this...

 

Emptying 'Les Balcons' for our new tenants who are taking it on an unfurnished basis means we are acquiring more 'stuff' to deal with. We took down 34 wall hangings that now have to be dealt with, shame there are no brocantes allowed!

Expect the unexpected...art,doing it large!

Well worth a visit...

Took a walk down to view some of the creations at the 'Doors open' event at the studios of La G'Art at the old station house here in Le Grand-Pressigny - some great pieces displaying talent and humour.  It is open this afternoon/evening and again on Saturday and Sunday - well worth the visit.
