Tonight in Angles-sur-l'Anglin you have the chance to see the best firework display of our surrounding area. 

End the weekend with a bang!

This Sunday evening the ruins of the castle at the beautiful Angles-sur-l'Anglin and the river valley are lit up by a spectacular fireworks display - if you haven't yet experienced it, then you should!

Some advantages of being Nomadic,,,

One of the (rare) advantages of our Nomadic lifestyle during the summer is that we get to take be part of three different communities Barrou, Le Grand-Pressigny and now La Guerche. Last night, thanks to some neighbours in La Guerche, who were kind enough to get us tickets, we joined in the 'Fete Nationale' celebrations. We enjoyed a meal under the chapiteau before heading onto the bridge at 11.00 pm for the fireworks. Unfortunately they had perhaps been a little ambitious with their display plans which included a floating island in the middle of the river. Due to 'technical issues' it was midnight before things got underway. By this time we had headed back to the house where we knew we would get a view from the courtyard should the problems be solved...and they were and we did!

I headed back on to the bridge for the grand finale.

ABILLY : July 13, evening guinguette from 7:30 pm followed by fireworks.

CHAMBON  : July 13, fireworks followed by a free ball at the party hall

DESCARTES : July 14th, fireworks sounded from the island followed by a free ball

LE GRAND-PRESSIGNY : On July 14th, lantern parade, fireworks in the Meadow of Grand-Moulin + dance with DJ

PREUILLY-SUR-CLAISE : July 13, fireworks at the lake, accompanied by a popular ball hosted by Les Copains de la Brenne

LA ROCHE POSAY: 9.30 pm: departure to music with banda for a parade with lanterns through the streets of the city, 11 pm: the city gives way to fireworks, shot in medieval town 
then dance - Place de la République

Early celebration...

Last night was pizza at the restaurant here in Barrou then on to the bridge at Lesigny for the joint village Bastille day(?) firework display.

With the potential threat of some much needed rain Willi offered us some protection...we did not take him up on his offer!

After the fireworks...the afterglow.

This was the scene as we made our way back through Angles-sur-l'Anglin after the fireworks last Sunday.

Big bang theory....

The theory was was good and the 'big bang' and company were excellent but our evening dining out at the No15 in Angles-sur-l'Anglin to watch the fireworks proved to be less than perfect..

The location near the river might have seemed like a good place to view the excellent show the village puts on but in reality the castle ruins,which take centre stage in the event, were shielded by trees...

apart that is, from the small chapel which only served to give us a taste of what we were missing. The musical backing was also less obvious but we tried not to let it spoil our evening.

Our 22 euro menu consisted of half a small melon filled with port, spit-roasted lamb, cheese and a cupcake. Unfortunately Pauline's portion of lamb proved to consist of no actual meat. They did quickly exchange it but it did feel that whoever was cutting the meat wasn't familiar with the process! 

The service proved difficult for the hard working staff who must have covered a few miles during the evening.

of  this, a special annual event for the No 15, who do excellent English teas and lunches.

Thankfully when the firework display got into full throttle we were treated to a wonderful display in the sky above treetop level.

Boom bang a bang bang...

Last night we went along to the Bastille day celebrations at La Roche Posay where you always get a great fireworks display - we were not disappointed!

Bastille day fireworks...

This weekend they will be hard to avoid...here in Southern Touraine we could have three nights of them.
Saturday night we can watch the fireworks on the bridge at La Guerche (11.00pm), Sunday we have the option of  Abilly (10.30pm), here in Barrou (11.00), Chambon (10.30pm), Le Petit Pressigny (11.00pm), and Preuilly-sur-Claise (11.30). On Monday you can have more at Betz leChateau (10.30pm), Descartes (11.00pm) or Le Grand Pressigny (10.30pm)...so really spoilt for choice. We are actually slipping 'over the border' to watch the great show they put on at the bridge at La Roche Posay on the 14th (11.00).

Like most of France we took a day off on Sunday...and went in search of fetes. We ended up in Verneuil-sur-Indre where they were set up for a long day. There was a brocante as well as stage where even over lunchtime we were treated to a musical journey by two English chaps showing the French how to do it (if in a somewhat 'club'style).

One couple were impressed enough to take to the floor.

...would loved to have gone back at midnight to check it out but we couldn't as we had been invited to Descartes' festivities.Food and music ('Matchbox') down by the river followed by 'pyrotechnics'. The local kayak club do a 'river dance' with lights...very impressive! Would loved to have shared it with you but my pics are rubbish...maybe someone out there has some.

A good evening with good company yet again.

Boom bang a bang bang....

Normally we see at least one Bastille day celebration around this time in the Loire Valley ...we were lucky this year as La Roche Posay, just over in the department of  Vienne, had postponed their fireworks display until Sunday night,due to bad weather, so we had a second opportunity

Their budget was obviously a little more than Barrou's...Here is the grand finale which I managed to get right into the 'war zone' to do this bit of videoing.

Barrou Bastille Day...

The Bastille day celebrations here in Barrou  start with games for the children in the square behind the restaurant in the afternoon followed by the lantern parade to the banks of the river Creuse before the fireworks themselves.Here is a short video of the grand finale.
