Because we were so close we revisited the troglodytes at Souzay-Champigny on Sunday which was in effect a  shopping mall in the caves. It was active up until the 1850's.

A walk along Rue du Commerce at Souzay-Champigny

Back in the middle of July as part of our visit to Montresor with Mike & Liz we took a walk along the troglodyte street of 'Rue du Commerce' at nearby Souzay-Champigny. This is a street cut into the rock along the banks of the river Loire. Formed after the extraction of the rock used for chateau and house building. Well worth a visit!
