Forward planning...

Last week on our weekly randonnee we passed this set of gates - the owners of the land are obviously forward thinkers! 

Sunday strolls...Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé

On Sunday we headed over to the 'Foire de Septembre' at Yzeures-sur-Creuse with Mike & Liz before heading over to Saint Pierre de Maillé to do one of their favourite walks.

The pic. above is of a previous visit as today the water level is very low due to the lack of rain and high temperatures this summer.

The walk took us along the lanes that run parallel to the river...

where we caught site of this splndid residence.

The Chateau de Cotets, built in the nineteenth century in the style of Renaissance castles.

This was the view of it as we returned towards the town on the loop.

Chateau de Molante above is another one you pass on the walk - though its view is obscured by trees - had to clamber through the trees andover barbed wire to get this view.

We finished the walk back in town - this is how the river looked on Sunday.

Wot we bot & wot we got!

At Saturday's brocante we bought these prints of Scottish artist Jack Vettriano's works. The one on the right we already have in a smaller version but the one on the left is new to us. €5.00 the pair.

We also bought these alabasteresque picture frames for €3.00

We made a donation to the 'everyone a winner' stall where we were rewarded with this charming lady with a fine paie of coconuts and a dress made from the pages of a discarded book. She is currently looking for a new home - any takers?

A Saturday brocante...a rare thing

With our current Canadian guests having a three week stay at the Old Walnut Mill  it means our Saturdays are free of changeovers. This allowed us to visit the annual brocante at Oyre for the first time in years,

Always a good social occasion.

Plus you have the opportunity to buy such diverse items as your gun accessories or someone's Coca-Cola merchandise collection.

There is also the added attraction, for some,of the ancient tractor parade and threshing display.

Good friends and good causes...

This was the lovely setting for Jean's local fundraiser to join in the 'Macmillan coffee morning' event in the UK yesterday. A pleasant get-together with friends for a good cause.

We were also lucky enough to join some friends for a BBQ in the evening so we had a rather relaxing day all in all.

Off and running...

Well walking actually...our local randonnee club had its first outing of the new season yesterday. There was a good turnout  for the walk which started under the watchful eye of the chateau ruins at Etableau just outside Le Grand-Pressigny

We walked passed fields of sunflowers which after a very dry season were not looking their best...

though some were hanging on in there!

Our walks nearly always throws up a diverse range of views and yesterday was no exception

We had started at a chateau and finished with one - passing the private 'Chateau de la Vienne' on the way back to Etableau.

A busy sky...

This was the sky on Monday evening when we went for a walk around the village here in La Guerche  - are these all flight trails?

on Sunday during our tour of the chateau we got to see their view of our house and that window, from the arched widow,which, by the way, used to be the main entrance to the castle via a drawbridge.

Sunday's brocante and an unscheduled chateau visit...

We went over the road yesterday to the annual brocante at the chateau (Chateau de La Guerche), sadly because of heavy morning rain many stall holders had decided against setting up which meant a depleted brocante which took little time to go around. 

We had met up with friends and as the chateau were doing visits at the reduced rate for the day I convinced them to take the tour. Glad we did as it had been a few years since we last did it. Our tour in English by a family member was enjoyable and informative. You are not allowed to take photos of the inside of the chateau but here is one looking out! 

By the time we had taken the tour (1hr) the sun had come out but unfortunately too late to also bring out the stall holders!

The day ended with a lovely sunset and a very pleasant dinner with friends over the river in the Vienne.
