On our recent visit to Rennes we decided to take the bus trip (1hr 20mins) up to Mont Saint-Michel. We were there last in 2004 when we walked over the causeway, which was subject to tidal flows, to vist it. This has now been replaced by a 769 metre long 'bridge' (pont-passerelle) which was completed back in 2014.
The bus drops you of at a parking lot which is still a bit of a walk to the start of the causeway through an unappealing commercial area. We decided to catch one of the many free shuttle buses that now take visitors to the foot of the mount but got off at the stop just before the causeway called "Place du barrage" at the dam on the Couesnon river. From there we walked the 2.5k to the island then through the streets of the rock and back again to work off the fine lunch, with an excellent view, we had there.
Two different views of the rock.
