A guid wee nicht...celebrating Burns

  A guid, blythe nicht we huckle doon,
To hail oor Bard an’ strum a tune;
His words, like wine, grew rich wi’ time,
Frae tender heart tae rovin’ rhyme.

Jane set the board wi’ kindly care,
A haggis fine beyond compare;
Its savour deep, its warmth sae braw,
Sae rich an’ tasty, we ate it a’.

Wi’ David, nae a glass lay empty,
There wis baith red an’ white wine aplenty;
Nae cup sat still, nae thirst unkent,
While cheer an’ laughter round were sent.

Then Geoff an’ Cally, strings in hand,
Brought music ower the happy band;
Their tunes had us a’ in lively strappin’,
Wi’ sang an’ hearty, thumpin’ clappin’.

Wi’ Jane an’ David guid an’ kind,
An’ Geoff an’ Cally’s sounds entwined.
A Bard, a feast, a dram, a rhyme
Wi freens we had a lovely time

Another super supper for 'Burns night' in Southern Touraine...

Great night last night hosted by Jane and David to celebrate the 'Bards' birthday. A wonderful mix of nationalities, great food and music, Rabbie would have loved it!

The last supper...

We had our traditional haggis neeps and tatties last night and toasted Rabbie.

Address to a Haggis

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye worthy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

Wee Burn's night...

We captured and brought back a haggis from a visit over to Ayr during the Scottish leg of our trip for Pauline's sister Eileen. She successfully cooked and served it in the traditional way...very nice it was too!

 Eileen also hosted us, both going to and coming back from Scotland...so generous with her time! We were also able to break the journey up with a stay with good friends just outside Preston.

In celebration of Burns...a big meal and a wee swally.

The generous hospitality we have received on our visit back to the UK continued on our return to Pauline's sister Eileen's home  last night with a belated celebration of 'Burns Night' with friends.

Our tartan style was perhaps a little less conventional than the  traditional Scottish garb but I think we all carried it off ! Eileen gave us a traditional meal of smoked salmon pate, Scotch broth, tatties neaps and haggis and cranachan for dessert...yummy!

'Burns night' in Southern Touraine...

Celebrated 'Burns night' with friends here in France and they did the 'Bard' proud.Excellent meal of cullen skink, tatties,neeps and haggis and rounded off with cranachan.

As the only  Scotsman present I was called upon to read some of the bard's work and do a bit of of chantin' and wheechin.
