Sunday lunch at Crêperie - La Bigorne in Chauvigny.

 

Had lunch with friends yesterday at La Bigorne, the Crêperie up in the high part of  Chauvigny. Have always  enjoyed visiting this interesting town, especially its medieval centre and couldn't resist poppimg into the 12th century church as we have done on many previous visits/

Church for Sunday - Saint-Pierre-les-Églises - Chauvigny

On a recent brocante trip down to Chauvigny friends Dennis & Angela took us to visit the interesting little church of  Saint-Pierre-les-Églises on the edge of the town. 

The church sits in a cemetery of Merovingian origin as evidenced by the sarcophagi that are strewn around it.

Inside the main interest lies in its (10th century) pre-Roman apse with a set of frescoes belonging to the Carolingian era. 

Although it does have other points of interest.

It struck me that outside isn't somewhere you would want to stroll through on a dark night.

Chauvigny...a view from the park.

On our many previous visits to Chauvigny in the Vienne we had only ever looked down on the public park and lake from the 'high town', so when we dropped a friend off at the airport recently we decided to go and check it out.

You certainly get a different view of things...and a pleasant walk into the bargain.

There is a path,not for the *faint hearted, that leads up to the higher part of the town

Once there you can take your reward of a refreshment from one of the local hostelry's terraces.  

* During the tourist season there is a 'courtesy' bus to take you up and down from the upper town.You can catch it at the tourist office and public park.
