Ups and downs of walking around La Guerche.

Yesterday morning we took Eileen up the hill behind La Petite Guerche, it's quite the climb! Once you get on to the path winding through the woods you still have a bit to do with teasing corners trying to convince you that each has you arriving at the top.

That doesn't actually happen until you catch sight of the mast.

Then it's pretty much all downhill from there onto the road up to Le Rond du Chêne and back to La Petite Guerche.

This morning's walk and a change of direction.

Out on our walk this morning at 7.50am to take advantage of the cooler temperature.

We had just about reached the crossroads before the camping when an elderly gentleman from Preuilly-sur-Claise stopped and asked us for help. He was searching for M.Moreau who operates an engineering business sharpening tools. He was heading to what was his old workshop which sits just outside Barrou but we told him this was now closed and he now works out of premises behind his house in La Guerche. On giving him directions as to how to get there we quickly realised he was still very unsure and was rather annoyed that he had to go back the way he came! Although it was obvious we were walking in the opposite direction he asked if we could get in the car and take him there. We decided I would take him and Pauline would finish her walk!

Getting back in step...

Went out for a wee walk yesterday around La Guerche, first since returning from our extended stay in Scotland. The shy sunflowers brought some brightness to a somewhat overcast morning.

Back to blue...

Great to see the blue sky yesterday and feel the temperature getting up to a good 18 deg.. Enough to get me out of the house to join Pauline on her 7km walk to Barrou and back. With our current 'lurgy' we could cough and sneeze without affecting anyone and enjoy a hot sun on our backs.

It was also good to see spring isn't so far away.

Monday's walk - at La Guerche.

The walks around us here in La Guerche are all ups and downs as we sit in the valley of the river Creuse. Think we all prefer the downs!

Roger was sent ahead to check out the route.

In search of a new route and shocking behavior...

Over the last couple of days Pauline and I have been trying to find a new 5km walk locally that we can do as we have offered to lead a walk on Monday. On Friday we set off on a longer walk up towards the Le Rond du Chêne with a view to going off piste and using a path that would link to one of our shorter routes. The plan seemed to be working as an unfamiliar path brought us out to a spot we recognized - the only problem was a new electric fence blocked our way and Pauline refused to touch it to check if it was live...shocking!

This meant we had to walk back the way we came and made us end up doing over 7km in total!

Yesterday we decided to return to a well worn path on the other side of the valley but adding in a part that Fabrice had introduced us to but doing it in reverse!

Big mistake!, the climb was very long and not a great start for a walk so we will leave it to the end as before.

We were compensated a little however by the colours of autumn.
