Another walk in the woods...

Monday saw a great change in the weather with us seeing conditions we would normally get in June...so we took to the hills and woods around Barrou. There is a marked route that takes you past the Mairie and behind the church up the hill into the woods  Always glad to reach the top!

The shade from the trees was a welcome relief from the sun we had waited so long to return!

There was still evidence of the recent heavy rainfall  and we had to tread carefully at times but apart from a couple of squelches we survived.

On this walk you have to cross over the road between that runs between Barrou and Le Grand-Pressigny and back into the woods.

We made our own deviation from the marked route to pop in on some friends for tea and sit on their sunny terrace and admire their garden. Hard work reaps its own rewards.

Refreshed, it was all thankfully downhill back to Barrou...

with views over our own little valley

'Au fil des jardin' Descartes,Sunday in pictures...

The Descartes publcc gardens were looking good on Sunday...

with the rose garden at its best...

and the work of the clever gardeners on display.

The small fete made for an interesting walk among the various stalls.

Plus there was some musical accompaniment.

This stall holder spent all the time on his phone...

think he was asking "where's my stock?"

Remember Le Grand-Pressigny have their 'garden' event next Sunday, the 12th

Date for your diary...2nd July in Barrou

Classic end to a lovely day...

Pauline's birthday yesterday included a visit to the market and garden fete at Descartes, a very good lunch with very good friends at  'La Claise' restaurant in Preuilly-sur-Claise...

immediately followed by a visit with other good friends and neighbours to a concert by the Symphony Orchestra of Centre-Val de Loire giving us some Mozart, Wagner and Stravinsky at Chateau du Chateliers. A very good day!

You can check out their musical programme for 2016 here

Church on Sunday... Saint-Christophe in the Vienne...

The church of Saint-Christophe sits in the sleepy village of the same name in the Vienne. It is abuilding with origins in the 12 th century but it has been much altered over the centuries.

The nave supports a wooden barreled ceiling.

The stained glass windows are from the 19th century

Not sure if this statue of the crucifixion was once on a cross, most probably was!

Where's Joan?

Actions speaking louder than words...

Did changeover at 'Les Balcons' on Friday, departing guests left no comment in the guestbook...now we would normally be disappointed at this but Andrew and Nickie were making their 4th visit to the house so their actions speak for themselves and anyway, they have been kind enough to leave earlier comments.

The weather wasn't as kind to them as on previous visits but they still managed to find new things to amuse themselves, making their first visit to the sumptuous interior of Chateau de Cheverny  for example.

Sharing...

New guests arrived on Thursday, a lovely couple from Sydney Australia, at the 'Old Walnut Mill' just in time to share our latest batch of fresh strawberries from the garden.

3 houses,3 days and the wrong pensions...

Next three days are going to be even busier than usual with guests arriving at the Old Walnut Mill today,

changeover at Les Balcons tomorrow...

and guests arriving at Le Bourg on Sunday.

Working my dear wife too hard...but needs must...now if only they had given her pension when she was entitled to it! So it seems we have 3 pensions that are most definitely 'contributory' but not our worked hard for state pension.
