Returning from our Sancerre trip I suggested we take a different route home to take in one of the regions 'Les-Plus-Beaux-Villages-de-France' that we had not visited - Apremont-sur-Allier. A lovely village resting on the banks of the river Allier close to its confluence with the Loire.
Everyone agreed it was worth the detour, though sadly the main attraction of this beautiful village, the 'Parc Floral' had closed for the season the day before our visit! Should really take my own advise and read up on places before visiting!
We all agreed it will be somewhere to return to next year, perhaps in the spring, for another visit.
The village sits under the watchful eye of the chateaux perched on the hill
above, a place I understand with a somewhat dark history!
