Last Saturday on the narrow streets of Mont Saint-Michel...

Mont-Saint-Michel's narrow streets and alleyways are mainly concentrated around its main thoroughfare, Grande Rue. The streets, alleys and paths lead visitors through this historic site on a continuous upward climb.

All paths lead up to the abbey which sits on top of the 'Mont'.

You have to retrace your steps to get you back down to the causeway and the iconic view.

More from Honfleur...

As part of our anniversary road trip we choose to return to the beautiful Honfleur after a gap of 20 years. As soon as we dragged our luggage over the cobbled streets of the harbour our memories came flooding back.

We were blessed with a warm beautiful day on our arrival which made for capturing the delights of the harbour area which must surely feature in a million tourist albums.

Pauline's hotel choice proved inspired also with a perfect location and very comfortable accommodation. We couldn't wait to rediscover this gem of a place!

Wedding anniversary...49 years

For this year's anniversary trip we have headed north, first for a revisit to the beautiful Honfleur in Normandy for a couple of nights and now over to Rennes, first visit, in Brittany where we spent the night of our anniversary proper. We choose the restaurant below but being who we are chose to have fish, which was very nice pieces of seared tuna.

Liking what we have seen so far.

Crepes, galettes & cidre...part II

As we were driving into Dinan I asked the navigator where we would be able to find our little chambre-d'hote but she hadn't printed off the directions...ah well nothing like driving into a strange town with no idea where you are headed! Not to worry we headed for the tourist board where a lovely young lady showed us how to get there. It was located just outside the fortifications of the town along from the ancient gate of Porte Saint.Malo.  A site that would become very familiar to us as we made our way back forth from the town.

The chambre-d'hote was situated, according to the owner, beside the only free parking in the town. This was apparently because the mayor of the town lived nearby so that was a stroke of luck!

We spent the afternoon and evening familiarising ourselves with the layout of this very pretty town so as to make the most of our time there.

We also felt we should taste the local drink - cider, which proved to be most palatable - and interestingly served in a prohibition style cup!

We also took the opportunity to book our anniversary (39) meal at the splendid  'Chez Mer la Pourcel' for the following evening.

Worth celebrating...

We had a great meal last night at 'Le Savoie Villars' in Le Grand Pressigny to celebrate the end of our rental season and...38 years of marriage! Both worth celebrating. I didn't take my camera...I am sure it would have felt like a gooseberry! Though the presentation of the food deserved photographing - will just have to go back soon.

We have lunched here before and even for that they go all out on presentation...

They had 20 covers in the dining room last night, which was good too see - and what was also good was that they accepted a couple at 9.00pm - without a reservation!

If you haven't eaten here you should try it.

Will do more on our 'season' in another post.
