Riverbank tower surprise

During our randonne club walk at the end of October which set off from Descartes, we took the path along the riverbank opposite the town, We caught site of the paper-mill on the other side of the river and as we walked we suddenly came across this tower on the riverbank.

After discussions with fellow walkers as to why it was there, the best answer was that it appears to have been used to ferry items over the river to a similar tower on the opposite side via a pulley system. Now there is a pulley on top of the tower nut it does seem rather an elaborate method to use...any other ideas,or is this correct?

The walk did give us more appealing views than that of the factory which you can see more of here.

Remembering...

And so I wandered out alone
Here where woods and fields abound
And in a quiet corner found the resting place
Of English soldiers killed in war
And what of them my love
Who died so far from home
No last farewell kiss
All that remains is this

Weekend of wining, dining and a little working...

With many of our friends over to close up their  'maison secondaires' this week for the winter, it was a chance to to do a little socializing before they (the hirondelles) fly off again.

Three evenings of eating and drinking with a little gardening work thrown in meant we were both rather occupied over the weekend!

Walking near Charnizay

Yesterday's walk with the Le Grand-Pressigny Randonnee club took us out in the countryside just north of the village of Charnizay. We were blessed with another fine day for walking.

It was a walk of leafy shaded chemins one minute and open countryside the next.

Yesterday we were joined by the charming grandchildren of our group leader (it is the school holidays,Toussaints ) who led the way and seemed to thrive on the experience.

In some of the paths nature had put some obstacles in the way  which were less of a problem for some of us!

House with potential?

The walk took us past the 'Etang du Bois Guenand which, on a day like today, showed it off to its best advantage.

As we walked it was interesting to see how our direction was highlighted by our accompanying shadows

By the time we were returning to our starting point the sun was going down over the village...

but it didn't stop the local farmers continuing to take advantage of the fine day. or what was left of it!
