A full day...

Usual busy Quinze août with breakfast at the tearoom at 'L'Art et la Matiere' (huge piece of Malcolm's Victoria sponge -very decadent) 

Then a quick browse of the exhibitors...

before heading over to Lesigny for their big brocante...

followed by an excellent afternoon of good company and food hosted by Mike & Liz in the form of their annual garden party.

Artisans and rusty cans...

Today we have the annual 'L'Art et la Matiere' exposition within the grounds of the chateau in Le Grand Pressigny,which is worth the visit on its own, where local craftsmen (and women) and artists get the chance to display the results of their hard work. 

The village also has its 'Bourse moto' at the Pres du Petit Moulin where enthusiasts  can exchange spare parts for old and collectible vehicles (cars, motorcycles, mopeds and tractors). There will also be an exhibition of old vehicles and various animations. 

Over at nearby Lesigny they have their annual brocante and display of classic cars.

L'Art et la Matiere - Le Grand Pressigny Thursday 15th

When it rains...

Because we are normally blessed here with good weather throughout most of the year, when the rain affects our social life we take it hard! Yesterday we had to cancel our visit with friends to what is normally a very good brocante at Yzeures-sur-Creuse  (after all these years still have to check the spelling). As it happens it cleared up in the afternoon and after a late afternoon walk around the village here in La Guerche we sat outside for aperos in the evening with some neighbours. The picture above is from an evening with our neighbour David in Barrou when we did not let a spot of rain spoil our BBQ at his place.

We understand that after the excessive temperatures of recent months we need rain for the gardeners and farmers but I recall the seasons when Mother Nature had it raining through the night followed by sunny daylight hours. 

Thursday the 15th (Quinze août) is a public holiday (feast of the assumption) and this of course is an opportunity to have a fete day...in various forms. Locally we have annual 'L'Art et la Matiere' exposition within the grounds of the chateau in Le Grand Pressigny, where local craftsmen (and women) and artists get the chance to display the results of their hard work. 

It is also a good day to visit nearby Lesigny as they have their annual brocante and display of classic cars. We normally have cake for breakfast with the hardworking bakers at Le grand Pressigny then visit the brocante, then we are lucky enough to end the day at a friends annual garden party in the village so fingers crossed that the rain stays away!

Wot we bot...

We bought this chair at the Barrou brocante on Saturday. Needs recovered but still a bargain at €25, we think.

Barrou's brocante...

Yesterday was Barrou's annual brocante which is always a good affair as it is mainly local people taking the opportunity to sell off unwanted items, thus more of a social event.

The day would not be the same without the usual injection of a bit of fun from this gentleman.

We even managed a trip over to Paulmy's event later in the day despite the high temperatures.

A Saturday brocante...around the plan d'eau at Preuilly-sur-Claise

We took in the Saturday brocante at Preuilly-sur-Claise yesterday more for the walk than any real search for any treasure as Pauline doesn't currently have anything on her shopping list.

I have in the past shown many badly displayed stalls but these two yesterday have to be commended! 

This stall of make-up items must have taken hours to set up...but would you dare touch any of them?

Slightly embarrassed to admit that in all of our many visits to the town we have never walked around their pretty plan d'eau.

If you have not been, then you should go...

Tonight in Angles-sur-l'Anglin you have the chance to see the best firework display of our surrounding area.

Sound performance...

After the big brocante on Sunday we popped over to Abilly to show our support for 'Celtiqua' who were providing the musical backdrop to the villages 'Marche Gourmand' Despite the guys doing the mixing doing their best to confuse the sound they did a good job in keeping the visitors entertained!

When wandering around the brocante on Sunday, from a distance, we had to make a  double-take  at the man (?) on this stall who seemed to have gone to extreme measures to cope with the heat! 

Whereas all Stig had to do was take of  his shoes and socks!

Another stall holder have a bit of 'armless fun with nakedness!

Above is how not to display stuff at a brocante - can't imagine either of these two boxes would be any lighter on the way home,not even the top one!

Why would you want to get rid of him? ok he's 4 ft high and and a bit unsure of his origin but...
