Our three little birds turned out to be 5 all rather snugly fitting (or not) in their well made nest. It was fascinating watching them grow on a daily basis due to their constant demand for food from their attentive parents. On Sunday morning we woke up to the noise of our Blackbird giving its 'cat alert' call and on investigation found all the chicks had 'flown the nest'
I started a search to see if I could locate them all...the one above had made it up the nearby tree...
one on his 'petit depondence' along with its still-feeding parent...
and this little terrified fellow seeking a hiding place.I managed to get it into our trumpet plant where it might have a better chance.
No sign of number 5 however but hopefully he was somewhere safe. With them being dispersed so widely it must be difficult for the parents. I have a few questions...do they return to the nest, or do they all fly off together...when do they part company with their parents...do they keep in touch (an occasional letter or text)? Ah the responsibilities of parenthood.
