They've arrived...

Picked up Pauline's sister Eileen and my sister Sally from Poitiers this morning. They arrived in typically Scottish weather but by the time lunchtime arrived we were able to take our first meal of their holiday alfresco!

Refreshing rain...

This morning's rain gives our little courtyard a refreshing look.

Games and the gardens...

The Paralympic Games started in Paris today but did you know that here in Touraine we have our homage to the games in the public gardens in Descartes

Sunday's brocante...juice what we needed!

We went over to the brocante at Cussay on Sunday, something we are doing less of these days as we really don't need anything. It now is more for the walk and the socialising. However on this visit Pauline was on a mission to find a replacement juicer as our glass version got damaged and like many times before what was on one of the first stalls we visited? We picked up this unused electric version for the princely sum of 3 euros!

Stepping out...into a morning sun.

This cotton wool sky greeted us as we headed out for our walk this morning, Then it was off into the sun.

Mon banc dominical / My Sunday Bench...by 'Smaland', a place for the wee ones.

Scots will appreciate this.

'Småland' in IKEA is a free supervised play area for children aged 3-10, which allows parents 45 minutes of shopping time free of the kids.

An afternoon in Tours...

We had a lovely afternoon in Tours on Wednesday with lunch in Place Plumereau at a very reasonable 13.90 Euros for two courses at 'La Manufacture' then a stroll around the streets to walk it off.

Best kept public gardens of Touraine?

Went for a walk around the public gardens at Descartes yesterday, they are currently looking at their best and a credit to the gardeners of the town. Are they the best kept public gardens of the region?, I think they would certainly be hard to beat.

Setting the scene...

One of our favourite aspects of the annual performances that the chateau here in La Guerche puts on is the use of the building as the backdrop to the story. This year was no different with a song from above.

This is from a previous year.

Morning walk and wee beasties...

A view of our neighbour as we headed over the bridge towards La Petite Guerche on a walk this morning. We need to get back into a fitness regime due to too much socialising recently. Big mistake however to head up into the trees as we were plagued by horseflies.

Out in the open wasn't as bad but we were glad to get back home.

Quinze août festivities...2024

Last night Angela and Dennis hosted the annual 'Quinze août' festivities at their home in Mairé, an excellent night of music, food and friendship. Huge shout out to them for their great hosting and to David for setting up the musicians platform for a night of diverse entertainment.

They had Pauline's name on them...

Pauline picked up these (new) large serving dishes at the brocante at Yzeures-sur-Creuse for the bargain price of 5 euros. When we got them home we realised they were made for her!

Fun & frolics at the chateau...

Great fun last night at the chateau here in La Guerche with 'Théâtre du Perron' putting on a performance of 'Ubu roi' by Alfred Jarry.

Imagine, if you can, Shakespeare's scheming wife from 'Macbeth' meets the ghost and revolt from Hamlet, the bear from 'The Winter's Tale', throw in an enemy eating machine and there you have it!

Awaiting their fate in the man eating machine...and they all disappeared inside with a clever piece of directing!

The evening was enhance by the talent of the musicale ensemble some of  whom, with some quick costume changes. also got involved with the acting.
Bravo  'Théâtre du Perron'...take a bow!
You can catch the last performance tonight.
