In search of 'Carte Vitale'...

When last in Chatellerault we caught the air-ambulance landing at the local hospital - after taking the shot we then realised that this was perhaps a very sad time in someone's life and hoped that the speed of response that it offered meant that their chances were greatly improved. It also reminded us of the delicate position we find ourselves in here in France of not actually having adequate health cover. It's not that we don't want it but trying to get into what is considered one of the best healthcare systems in Europe is proving an uphill struggle.

We have been in the process of application for 2 1/2 years and although we have in fact made it into the system (we have a number) our 'Carte Vitale' is still proving elusive which means we cannot get the necessary 'top-up'cover.. We are dealing with the RAM regime which is part of the problem - we have had a lot of misinformation and conflicting advice - and have sent them so many copies of our documents (the last ones were translations of our birth certificates) that we are sure there must now be a few more Jim and Paulines running around France - hope they have been as lucky as us with respect to their health!.
