Weekend in Mojácar...day 2, on the beach in January.!

Pinching ourselves at our good fortune as we sat under a warm sun on the beach for lunch on Sunday down at Playa de Mojácar.

We had decided to walk down to the coast as part of our walking regime we have laid out for our trip, so far we are averaging around 12km per day so the 3km down from the town was fairly easy. Going back up would prove a wee bit more difficult but still manageable.

We actually stumbled upon a small brocante on the way down and thought about buying a couple of lamps we saw for our apartment in Almeria as its lighting offered little in the way of ambiance but decided it would be a little difficult carrying them back on the bus!
It felt a little odd arriving at Mojácar after having just left it but this was Mojácar Playa which is considered the tourist resort of the town.
We decided to stroll along the seafront and suss out a restaurant for lunch. We now knew there was no point in looking at eating before 1.00pm at the earliest so we had plenty of time.

As we walked we came across 'Kontiki Beach Restaurant' and although technically closed we sneaked in for a look and decided it was a good option.
We continued our walk in case there was a better option, stopping off at a Dutch owned bar along the way for a glass of water where the charming owner tried to talk us into staying for lunch but it was more of a typical 'place in the sun' establishment so we politely passed on her invitation.
We then continued our walk until it was time to return to our restaurant of choice, so glad we did!
After lunch it was the walk back up the hill and steps which Pauline did not enjoy too much but...
...was happier when we rewarded ourselves with a wee refreshment on the terrace overlooking the magnificent views the town has to offer.

I have to say, you're not missing much here in the middle of France (except for friends of course!).
